In
the wake of the separation from my husband due to his infidelity and subsequent
abandonment, I tried hard to move on with my life and distance myself
from the pain. Though I still loved my husband, being with him was not
an option. The betrayal was too great. I was left devastated and distraught.
I had lost hope in love, and lost faith in men being good. Love had deserted me and ripped my heart apart. I was longing to be healed. Then, I met a man who proved to be a balm in Gilead. A client was referred to me who was seeking someone to ghostwrite his autobiography - It was a tale of one man with two lives: life before Christ and after life Christ. His was a Horatio Alger story, but the ghetto version. He was a man whose pernicious past led him circuitously to a propitious future; and would tell a tale from rebellion to redemption. His life story would make a fascinating book. His story would change people's lives. Meanwhile, my estranged husband was still caught up in a vicious cycle of addiction and infidelity. He was a young musician with "visions of sugar plums dancing in his head" perfumed with pot. Reality was a place he did not want to be, so pickled his brain with alcohol, and dreamily candied his mind with jazz flavors, caramelized hip hop beats, and the incense of "try Jah love." He was torn between two worlds - a world of wine, women and song; and a world of living according to the Word of God, in line with the calling of his Baptist preaching forefathers. Read More |
